Principles of LVFC

Las Vegas Fur Con (LVFC) is a diverse community, with a volunteer organization of over two hundred people running the convention proper and thousands more participating in its broader community centered on the convention. LVFC and its community operate on several guiding values, some falling more on the organization and some more on its community.

Justice

LVFC welcomes those who are marginalized and all their allies. LVFC strives to expand opportunities for disadvantaged groups such as people of color, queer people, and women. LVFC celebrates equity as well as equality.

Examples: observance of days/months for marginalized people; compassion for human error; kindness towards service workers; accessibility initiatives.

Fellowship

LVFC is run from top to bottom by volunteers, who are entitled to equal dignity and respect regardless of formal ranking. None of our work is possible without coming together as a team.

Examples: prioritizing staff welfare; collective discussion to inform decisions and resolve problems.

Self-Expression

LVFC’s space welcomes self-expression of identity, intellect and ideas free from oppression and harassment. We respect each other’s spaces, identities and bodies, and do not touch or interact with others or their possessions without permission.

Consent is King

We are an adults-only space. However, we respect there being specific times and places for more revealing self-expression, and that such self-expression does not imply consent. Presence at our convention does not imply openness to sexual interaction (or any interaction), and no outfit implies consent for contact, sexual or otherwise.

Examples: Adult Dealers Den remains separate from Dealers Den; Night Market event and Night Market rules

Community Welfare

LVFC values the well-being and safety of its members. The convention strives to have policies enhancing public health and safety, while community members show due care and courtesy for others.

Examples: working with health centers to provide free testing for diseases; offering free hygiene products; providing incentives to stay up to date on vaccinations.

Transparency

LVFC as an organization strives to be open and transparent about all operations where this would not impede safety or liability.

Examples: public release of data above and beyond IRS minimum requirements.

Social Responsibility

LVFC celebrates a world greater than supply, demand and profit. Any fees collected should be for the benefit of our mission and the communities we serve.

Examples: Donations to charity; maintenance of 501(C)(3) status; support for community business.

Leave No Trace

LVFC respects the spaces which welcome us. All members of LVFC’s community clean up after themselves and, if possible, leave it better than how we found it.

Inclusive Diversity

Many people find their first warm and welcoming space within the furry fandom as a whole, and LVFC wishes to continue this trend. Anyone who respects our values and our community may join us in our gatherings, regardless of their background.
